The VFW 839 Auxiliary meeting was held on Sept. 17 at the Post Home. Sr. V. President Diane Welch called the meeting to order at 1:45 p.m. followed by the opening ceremonies according to Ritual. Asst. Secretary Linda Fuller roll call responding to nine members in attendance. One visitor Susan Conder. Temp Chaplain Delores Clayton recited the opening prayer. Patriotic Instructor Kay Bell reminds us of the duty to the flag. The members recited the Pledge of Allegiance lead by Welch.
Fuller presented the minutes of Aug. 20 and read General Orders No. 4. Treasurer Deb Miller gave the treasurer report. Bank corrected name on the checking account. There were no bills. The report approved and subject to audit.
Community Reports:
Legislative: Fuller reported about dental care for all veterans.
Hospital: Clayton reported bingo date is 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 25. The VFWA received new dates for future bingo at the Iowa Veterans Home. Welch reported 271 coupons were cut out and sent on.
Old Business: Welch made a motion to approve Conder as a new member. Members approved her membership. Welch made a motion to accept and Carol Ewalt second it. Motion carried. Jr. Vice Schiebel updated on Buddy poppies signup sheet for Oct. 15-17 at Fareway, Hy-Vee and Thiesens. The Fall Conference that was held in Des Moines with several changes that need to be addressed. Donna Mitchem led the National Home Prayer.
New Business: Stars for IVH Christmas party. Clayton made the motion to spend two hundred and fifty dollars on stars. Secretary Pam Gorham second it. Motion carried. Bell and Conder will purchase gifts and all bags. Miller is working on getting the 990 done. Membership letters for renewable are ready for mailing and will be mailed out soon. Ewalt, Bell, Fuller, Welch and Gorham have been getting the VFWA prepared for Buddy poppies distribution. Fuller will ask Marvis Drew to enlighten the Unit about the Quilts of Valor at the next meeting. Schiebel asked us if we consider ringing the bells for Salvation Army. Fuller will check with Salvation Army for dates.
Clayton closed the meeting with closing prayer and Welch closed the meeting with the Ritual. Next meeting will be at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 15 at the VFW Home Post 839. If anyone is interested in joining the VFWA; call 641-295-1588 for the requirements. Visitors are welcome to join a meeting to see what the VFWA does for the Veterans and the community.
