Making A Difference Together through Chapter MJ

In following with Chapter MJ's program theme of Making A Difference Together, Linda Havelka, executive director of CAPS (Child Adolescent & Parent Support), shared how their organization works with other programs in the county to make life less challenging for those families less fortunate.

Havelka outlined the six programs CAPS implement. CAPS is there for families to help provide them with knowledge on how to be a teacher to their children and care for them effectively and provide for them adequately. A CAPS program started two years ago is Faith In Action. There are currently 11 churches involved which work with families to help with their needs. The Nest is a store that contains baby items and is provided by CAPS. Parents earn points by utilizing other providers. They redeem their points at the Nest for items like diapers and car seats.

The regular business meeting was called to order by President Beth Currie. Betty Gray served a hostess. Chapter MJ is having a social at Tannin at 5 p.m. on Oct. 21 to meet new prospective members. Chapter MJ received word that their ELF (Educational Loan Fund) applicant's application was received and accepted. Mary Giese presented Barb McBride with a monetary gift for being the winner of the Tailgate Fundraiser for P.E.O. Projects. Giese also presented a report on Cottey College which is a P.E.O. project.

The next regular meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Nov. 2 at the Binford House.
