Marshalltown Community String Orchestra welcomes new conductor

By Times-Republican 1 min read

The Marshalltown Community String Orchestra proudly welcomes Kara Mather as its new conductor. Mather brings more than 25 years of dedicated ensemble leadership and music education experience to the podium. She previously spent more than 14 years as the Director of Orchestras for Tech High School in the St. Cloud Area School District, and served for more than two decades as the founding director and symphony conductor of the Monticello Community Strings Orchestra in Minnesota.

Since relocating to Iowa, she has continued her active performance career as a versatile violinist, music librarian and guest conductor with the Des Moines Community Orchestra. She has served as a guest clinician for area schools, and conducted for the Drake University Honors Orchestra Festival. Her deep commitment to fostering lifelong musical opportunities makes her an exceptional fit for Marshalltown.

Local violin, viola, cello and bass players are invited to join Mather for upcoming rehearsals, held on Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the MHS Orchestra Room. Funding for the orchestra is provided by the Ann C. Keyser Charitable Trust. For additional information, contact dclaussen@marshalltown.k12.ia.us.
