Fourteen members of Chapter JU of the P.E.O. Sisterhood attended the Sept. 18 meeting which was held at Taylor No.4 School House, hosted by Mary Bloomquist and Jolene Jebsen. An interactive program, presented by Rita Smith of Chapter LT and Marshall County Historical Society, engaged attendees in activities and presentation as to education in a one-room school house in the era of 1913. This program is presented to 4th graders in Marshalltown and the surrounding area. Business meeting was conducted thereafter. Ten members of P.E.O. Chapter LT toured the new McFarland Clinic with Deb Wollan, executive director. A facilities committee made up of staff made many decisions related to the location, efficient building space use along with forecasting future medical needs. Lisa Koester, president, presided over the meeting in a conference room. The next meeting will be at 1 p.m. on Oct. 2 with the location to be determined.
The Ave Maria Study club held its first meeting of the new 2023-24 year on Sept. 8 in the Madonna Room at St. Henry Church. Twelve members were present. The afternoon began with a salad luncheon hosted by the officers with members bringing salads or sandwiches. Dianne Maile brought a birthday cake to mark the 70th year since the Ave Maria Study Club began in Marshalltown in 1953. Sigma Master Chapter, Beta Sigma Phi met for its first meeting of the 2023-24 year at Dairy Queen on South Center Street at noon on Sept. 12 for lunch. President Diane Hobson hosted the meeting with the opening question: “What different food or drink did you enjoy this summer?” as eight members, two guests answered. One member was excused as she helped with the Sept. 12 voting. Secretary Alice Nicholson read the May minutes and approved. Chaplain Dorothy Sorensen gave opening prayer. All recited the Pledge of Allegiance and Auxiliary Preamble. Minutes of June meeting were read and approved.
