Intoxicated man cuts victim with a knife

A man was sent to the hospital after an intoxicated man allegedly took a knife from him when he was sharpening it outside then cut him with it.

Christopher Brown, 26, of Marshalltown, was arrested at about 9:45 p.m. Sunday, hiding under a truck in the 10 block of South Second Avenue, near the scene of the alleged incident.

Capt. Brian Batterson, with the Marshalltown Police Department, said the victim and his roommate were sharpening knives on the fire escape and Brown approached the two and asked if they wanted to fight.

After the two said they wanted to just sharpen their knives, Brown took a knife, cut the victim, threw the knife and ran, Batterson said.

The victim was taken to the emergency room for treatment, he said.

Brown was found shortly after the incident nearby. He was acting erratic and resisting the officers commands, Batterson said.

Brown spat out the window of the police car onto an officer, Batterson added.

Brown was charged with aggravated assault with a weapon, public intoxication, spitting in a patrol vehicle and assault on a peace officer.

According to police, when Mutapcic arrived he started arguing with her and the victim told him to leave.

As she was telling him to leave, he yelled at her and punched her in the face, said Capt. Brian Batterson with the Marshalltown Police Department.

The victim told Mutapcic again to leave and he punched and kicked her until her son took Mutapcic in the kitchen and started to fight with him, Batterson said.

A Marshalltown man allegedly tried to gouge the eyes out of the mother of his children.

William Thompson, 37, was arrested Wednesday after the victim called police because he was allegedly intoxicated outside of her house in the 500 block of May Street.

According to police, after officers spoke to the two, no assault was reported and they both did not want to leave.

Police left and 20 minutes later they were called back because Thompson allegedly assaulted her, police said.

The victim went outside to lock her truck because she was afraid Thompson would damage it. He was outside letting air out of her tires when she went out, police said.

When he tried to come back inside the house she told him no and he turned around, grabbed her hair, threw her to the ground, squeezed her face and attempted to gouge her eyes out with his fingers, police said.

Her sister came in the house and called police.

Their children were home but did not witness the incident.

The woman was not seriously injured, police said.
