Monday

Carl N. Porter, of Marshalltown, made an initial appearance on a driving while barred-habitual offender charge, a possession of marijuana-third or subsequent charge, a possession of drug paraphernalia charge and a driving under suspension charge. The public defender’s office was appointed to handle his case. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Feb. 13. Porter was released under supervision through the Department of Correctional Services and is to report to the adult probation office by 4 p.m. today to sign a pre-trial release agreement. The court ordered a substance abuse evaluation with the results submitted to the court within 60 days of today’s date.

Brent Joseph Thompson made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge, a no insurance charge and a failure to transfer title within 15 days charge. A Rocket Docket pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9 a.m. on Feb. 27 in Magistrate Court.

Accidents

On Sunday, a car driven by Tyler John Rundall, 1510 Fremont St., was eastbound in the 400 block of May Street when the driver was distracted by passengers and it struck the rear of a legally parked GMC Envoy sending it into the rear of a legally parked Nissan Sentra. Passengers Nicholas Todd Eipperle, 201 N. 19th St., and Jessica Marie Street 715 N. Fifth Ave., were possibly injured, but not transported. Rundall was cited for speeding, failure to maintain control and defective tires. Damage to the Rundall car was estimated at $4,000 while the Envoy and Sentra sustained an estimated $1,000 in damage each.

On Friday, a car driven by a 15-year-old female from Marshalltown was exiting a parking spot in the 700 block of West Main Street when it collided with a car driven by a 16-year-old male from Marshalltown which was driving west on Main Street. No injuries were reported. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $4,000 each.

On Friday, a car driven by Nancy Rae Alberts, 1713 S. Third St., was eastbound on Iowa Avenue West when it struck a deer that ran onto the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Alberts car was estimated at $2,200.

On Jan. 18, vehicle driven by Dennis Presley Tucker, 515 E. Olive St. Apt. #2, was southbound on South Third Avenue approaching the intersection with East Olive Street when, as a result of ice on the roadway, it collied with the rear of a car driven by James W. Boyd, 309 S. First St. Apt. #3, which was stopped at the stop sign. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Tucker vehicle was estimated at $500 while the Boyd car received an estimated $1,200 in damage.

Sunday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a carbon monoxide incident at 2006 S. Fourth Ave., and five medical assists with the EMS crew to: 2502 Knollway Drive, 1108 W. Iowa Ave., 2 N. Second Ave., 608 E. Olive St., and 407 May St.

Saturday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 530 N. Third St., 1211 W. State St., 104 1/2 W. Webster St., and 106 N. Third St.

Friday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a chemical spill or leak on Sixth Street and 11 medical assists with the EMS crew: 402 N. 10th Ave., 710 Arlington Drive, 206 N. First Ave., 206 Nicholas Drive, 210 N. 12th St., 3202 S. 12th St., 1102 E. Nevada St., 111 W. State St., 1 W. Grant St., 421 Swayze St., and 106 Santa Barbara Drive.

Thursday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a fire at 106 NewCastle Road, a smoke detector activation-no fire-unintentional at 3 S. Fourth Ave., and five medical assists with the EMS crew to: 1709 Olsen Way, 412 E. Church St., 300 Thomas Drive, 21 S. Second Ave., and 1007 S. 11th Ave.

Wednesday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a sprinkler activation-no fire-unintentional at 200 S. 12th Ave., and three medical assists with the EMS crew to: 114 N. Center St., 101 W. Iowa Ave., and 704 N. Fourth Ave.

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 510 W. Southridge Road, 206 N. Fifth St., 711 E. Boone St., and 1 W. Grant St.

Jan. 19

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a good intent call to 507 S. Third Ave., a steam or other gas mistaken for smoke call at South Center Street and Ferner Street and three medical assists with the EMS crew to: 301 S. Fourth Ave., 405 S. Second St., and 10 1/2 W. State St.

On Tuesday, Jan. 20, Rosalina Keryll Moberg was arrested for operating while under the influence-first offense.

On Sunday, Jan. 18, Glenda Roberts was arrested on a warrant.
