Cathy J. Pearson made an initial appearance on a child endangerment charge and a operating while intoxicated-first offense charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on April 22. Pearson was released on her promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted within 60 days.
Eric S. Boyd, of State Center, made an initial appearance on a domestic abuse assault-strangulation charge, a child endangerment charge, a harassment-first degree charge, a criminal mischief-fourth degree charge and a interference with official acts charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on April 14. Bond is set at $2,000 cash. If he owns or possesses any firearms or ammunition, Boyd is to contact the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office within 24 hours to make arrangements to surrender them. Three no-contact orders were issued for the protected parties.
Everardo Torres Gonzalez made an initial appearance on a supplying alcohol to a person under legal age charge and a supplying alcohol where underage drinking occurs-social host charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on April 22. Torres Gonzalez was released on his promise to appear.
John Kevin Allen made an initial appearance on a failure to stop in an assured, clear distance charge. He pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days.
Jamil B. Maddred made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree. charge. He pleaded guilty and received a deferred judgment. A civil penalty of $65 was assessed with a $125 law enforcement initiative and $60 in court costs for a total of $250, due within 120 days. Maddred will be on unsupervised probation for one year, is to pay all costs assessed and obey all laws. At the end of the year Maddred may petition the court to have this removed from his record.
Jessica Torres made an initial appearance on a contributing to the delinquency of a minor charge, purchasing alcohol by a person 18, 19 or 20-first offense, permitting alcohol to be consumed by a minor and supplying alcohol to someone under the legal age limit. She pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9 a.m. on May 11 in Magistrate Court.

Accidents
On Sunday, a red full-sized sedan backed out of a driveway onto Melody Lane striking a legally parked car owned by Christina Kyaw and left the scene. Damage to the Kyaw car was estimated at $3,500.
On Sunday, a pickup driven by Sharon Lee Pals, of Marshalltown, was exiting Walmart onto Merle Hibbs Boulevard when it collided with the driver’s side of a vehicle driven by Greta Mae Thomae, of Marshalltown, which was traveling west on Merle Hibbs. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Pals pickup was estimated at $2,200 while the Thomae vehicle received an estimated $4,500 in damage.
On March 29, a vehicle driven by Marilyn Ann Veren, of Marshalltown, was stopped at the entrance to the Super Shine Car Wash attempting to pay when she hit the gas pedal and panicked driving through both doors of the car wash, a fence and coming to rest after striking a shed on the Economy Inn property. Veren was transported to Central Iowa Healthcare. Damage to the Veren vehicle was estimated at $8,500 while the garage doors at Super Shine received an estimated $7,000 in damage and the shed an estimated $6,000 in damage.
