Monday

• Richard A. Stevens Jr. made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge and a theft-fifth degree charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Court. Stevens is being held without bond on the probation violation. The theft charge will continue with the probation charge and be seen at the same time. Bond on the theft charge is $300 cash.

• Louisa May Lopez made an initial appearance on a theft-third degree charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Oct. 20. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case.

• Crystal Cardona made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge. Cardona pleaded not guilty to this charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. A pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 29 in Magistrate Court. Bond is set at $350 cash or surety.

• Kenneth T. Aschan made an initial appearance on three counts of a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District or District Associate Court. Aschan is released on his promise to appear. The court directed Aschan to meet with his probation office within 48 hours.

• Wesley Thomas Cochran made an initial appearance on a public intoxication charge. Cochran pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days.

• Jorie Bader made an initial appearance on a no insurance-accident charge. Bader pleaded not guilty to this charge. The pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 1 in Magistrate Court. Bader is released on her promise to appear.

• Jennifer Erin Matlock made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge. She pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $272.75 plus restitution if applicable, due within 30 days.

• Sims Holmes Matlock made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge. He pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $272.75 plus restitution if applicable, due within 30 days.

• Michael Allen Bell, of Beaman, made an initial appearance on a possession of alcohol under legal age limit charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. He pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 1 in Magistrate Court. Bell is released on his promise to appear.

• Joseph Allen Burke made an initial appearance on two counts of a parking in the front yard charge. He pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 8 in Magistrate Court.

• On Saturday, a theft was reported in the 500 block of Lee Street.

Accidents

• On Thursday, Sept. 21, a pickup driven by Phillip Frederick Barker, of Marshalltown, was exiting a parking slot in the McFarland Clinic parking lot when it collided with a car driven by Charlene Lavon Polzin, of Marshalltown, which was driving through the lot. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Polzin car was estimated at $2,000.

• On Thursday, vandalism and a burglary attempt was reported in Ferguson. • On Friday, a theft was reported to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office.

• On Friday, a theft from a building was reported in Gladbrook.

• On Friday, Shelly Stoehr, 33, was arrested on a warrant.

• On Friday, Ryan Purdy, 39, was arrested on a warrant.

• On Friday, Brittney Thrift, 21, was arrested on a warrant.

Accidents

• On Wednesday, Sept. 20, a semi driven by Michael Vernon Harris, of Eldora, was northbound on Durham Avenue when it entered the intersection with Highway 30 at the same moment that a pickup driven by Dillon Robert Schultz, of State Center, and a pickup driven by Brandon Willis Daggett, of Colo, got to the intersection resulting in the Schultz pickup colliding the rear of the semi while the Daggett pickup collided with the front quarter panel. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Harris semi was estimated at $2,500 while the Daggett pickup was estimated at $4,000 and the Schultz pickup an estimated $3,000. Foggy weather conditions was a factor to visibility.• On Saturday, a car driven by Rodney Ray Carter, of Marshalltown, was westbound on Highway 30 just west of the Zeller Avenue overpass when it struck a deer that jumped onto the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Carter car was estimated at $1,500.

• On Saturday, a car driven by Paula Jean Nablo, of Marshalltown, was westbound on Iowa Avenue West when a deer entered the traveled portion of the roadway from the south ditch and was struck. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Nablo car was estimated at $1,500.
