Tuesday

• Jessy James Lennie made an initial appearance on a ongoing criminal conduct charge and a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on April 27. Bond is set at $25,000 cash only.

• David Randall Riedle made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Riedle is being held without bond.

• Kaytlyn Sue Lewis made an initial appearance on a possession of a controlled substance-morphine charge, a possession of a controlled substance-marijuana charge, a possession of a controlled substance-clonazepam charge, a theft-fifth degree charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on May 7. Lewis is released on her promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Mathew A. McCanna made an initial appearance on 12 counts of a violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court charge. Jeff Hazen is appointed as counsel. The contempt hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety.

• Lucas Anthony Shepley made an initial appearance on a unlawful passing of a school bus-first offense charge. Shepley pleaded guilty and the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due in 30 days.

• Juan Carlos Castellano Muratella made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. A rocket docket pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on May 18 in Magistrate Court

• JoAnn Cortinas, of Des Moines, made an initial appearance on a warrant charging her with failure to appear for a contempt hearing. A pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on July 18 in Magistrate Court.

Incidents

• On Monday, a theft was reported in the 100 block of South Third Avenue.

• On Monday, a case of vandalism valued between $500-$1,000 was reported in the 400 block of North 10th Avenue.

Arrests

• On Monday, Joshua Allen Hazen, 42, was arrested for trespass and harassment-second degree.

• On Monday, Shawn Dobbs, 27, was arrested for driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended.

• On Monday, Kaytlyn Lewis, 24, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia, theft-fifth degree and possession of marijuana-first offense.

• On Monday, Jessy Lennie, 27, was arrested for conspiring to manufacture or deliver methamphetamine.

• On Monday, Thomas Lopez, 23, was arrested for driving while barred.

Accidents

• On Monday, April 9, a car driven by Jodee Rohde, 61, of Marshalltown, was exiting a parking spot when she hit the gas instead of the brake and struck a legally parked Chevy Avalanche, then continued in a half circle and struck a legally parked Chevy Malibu sending it into a legally parked Ford pickup before again putting the car into drive and hitting the gas striking the Chevy Avalanche for the second time. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Rohde car was estimated at $8,000 while the Chevy Avalanche and Chevy Malibu each received an estimated $500 in damage and the Ford pickup an estimated $300 in damage.

• On Thursday, April 12, a car driven by Emily Theone Nine, 19, of Marshalltown, was southbound on South Sixth Street when it collided with the rear of a vehicle driven by Bethene Jo Murphy, 63, of Laurel, which was stopped at a stop sign. Nine was transported to UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown. Nine was cited for failure to stop in an assured, clear distance. Damage to the Nine car was estimated at $10,000 while the Murphy vehicle received an estimated $2,500 in damage.

• On Thursday, April 12, a car driven by Rosina Mary Long, 83, of Marshalltown, was traveling through an alleyway and attempted to enter Marion Street without stopping when it collided with the side of the trailer on the semi driven by Richard Laverne Horras, 53, of Richland. No injuries were reported. Long was cited for failure to yield upon entering a through highway. Damage to the Long car was estimated at $3,000 while the trailer received an estimated $500 in damage.

• On Saturday, April 14, a vehicle driven by Hrang Nawl, 33, of Marshalltown, was pulling into a parking spot at The Depot when the driver struck the building. No injuries were reported. Nawl was charged with operating while intoxicated. Damage to the Nawl vehicle was estimated at $1,000 while the wall of The Depot received an estimated $5,000 in damage.

• On Sunday, April 15, a pickup driven by Edgar Rene Avalos-Mora, 30, of Marshalltown, was northbound on South Ninth Street when the driver fell asleep at the wheel and struck a tree. No injuries were reported. Avalos-Mora was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to the Avalos-Mora pickup was estimated at $5,000 while the tree received an estimated $100 in damage.

• On Monday, April 16, a vehicle driven by Tulsi Khushalbhai Bhakta, 67, of Urbandale, was southbound on South Center Street when the driver initiated a lane change and collided with a car driven by Marlys Mae Lovig, 62, of Marshalltown. No injuries were reported. Bhakta was cited for improper lane change. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $1,000 each.

• On Monday, Mathew Andrew McCanna, 30, was arrested on a warrant.

• On Monday, Trent Lewis Taylor, 40, was arrested for driving under suspension, prohibited use of light restricting devices, no valid driver’s license and driving while barred-habitual offender.

• On Monday, Shawna Marie Gowdy, 40, was arrested on a warrant.
