• Tara Cleta Albee, of State Center, made an initial appearance on an assault charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Dec. 19. Albee is released on her promise to appear. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Alphonze Theophilus Emanuel made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for a pre-trial conference on a keeping a premises for the purpose of using or selling drugs charge and an interference with official acts charge. Merrill Swartz will continue as counsel. The pre-trial conference is rescheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 7. Emanuel is released on his promise to appear. The court ordered Emanuel to contact his attorney no later than Dec. 5.

• Enrique Lemus Jr. made an initial appearance on a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. Lemus pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $272.75, due within 30 days.

• Jagger Cain Purk, of Tama, made an initial appearance on a trespass charge, a speeding charge, a driving under suspension charge and an obstruction of emergency communications charge. Purk pleaded not guilty to the driving under suspension charge and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 6, 2019, in Magistrate Court. Purk pleaded guilty to all other charges. The fine on the trespass charge is $200 with a $70 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $455. On the speeding charge the fine is $80 with a $28 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $168. The fine on the obstruction of emergency communications is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75. All payments are due within 30 days.

• Cody Allen Hartmen made an initial appearance on an escape charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Dec. 10. Bond is set at $5,000 cash only.

• Monique Mariama Perales, of Tama, made an initial appearance on an assault-causing bodily injury charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Dec. 19. Perales is released on her promise to appear. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• James Dean Wilcox Estes made an initial appearance on a trespass charge. Estes pleaded guilty and the fine is $200 with a $70 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $455, due within 30 days.

• Honeida Elizabeth Fernandez made an initial appearance on a no valid driver’s license charge, a fraudulent use of registration charge, a driving under suspension charge and a no insurance charge. Fernandez pleaded not guilty to all charges and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 16, 2019, in Magistrate Court.

• Jasmine Crystal Rose Davis made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge and a unlawful possession of prescription drugs charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Dec. 19. Davis is released on her promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Cledith Rebecca Thompson made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge. Thompson pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days.

• Thomas James Morford made an initial appearance on a trespass charge. Morford pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 9, 2019, in Magistrate Court.

• A 15-year-old male made a violation of a minor’s license charge. The juvenile pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days.

• Austin Grim made an initial appearance on a no insurance charge, a speeding charge and a no valid driver’s license charge. Grim pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 9, 2019, in Magistrate Court.

Accidents

• On Thursday, a pickup driven by Nancy Lee Zitzow, 65, of Garwin, was eastbound on Iowa Avenue stopped at the intersection with 18th Avenue and then proceeded forward into the path of a vehicle driven by Christine Ann Weitzell, 59, of Le Grand, resulting in a collision. No injuries were reported. Zitzow was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way and no insurance-accident. Damage to the Zitzow pickup was estimated at $1,000 while the Weitzell vehicle received and estimated $8,000 in damage.

• On Wednesday, a vehicle driven by Thonia Pajo Chua, 79, of Marshalltown, was southbound on South Center Street attempting a left turn onto Merle Hibbs Blvd. when it collided with the front passenger side of a vehicle driven by Melissa Ann Christiansen, 23, of Marshalltown. No injuries were reported. Chua was cited for failure to yield upon a left turn. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $2,000 each.

• On Thursday, Ceisha Rose Vanwey, 26, was arrested for no valid driver’s license, no insurance, driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended and driving while barred-habitual offender.

• On Thursday, Cody Allen Hartman, 31, was arrested on a warrant.
