• Miguel Angel Vidales Mendez made an initial appearance on a domestic abuse assault causing bodily injury or mental illness-first offense charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Jan. 25. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Jose Fidel Castillo Alvarez made an initial appearance on a domestic abuse assault-impeding the flow of blood or air charge and an assault with intent to inflict serious injury charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Jan. 25. Bond is set at $2,000 cash only. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party. There is an Immigration and Customs Enforcement hold on Castillo Alvarez.

• Jaimee Yajaira Alcarez Gutierrez made an initial appearance on a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. Alcarez Gutierrez pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge, a $10 DARE surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $282.75, due within 30 days.

• On Tuesday, a case of vandalism to property was reported to the Marshalltown Police Station.

Arrests

Accidents

• On Jan. 10, a minivan driven by Christopher James Dahms, 55, of West Des Moines, was westbound on East Anson Street at the intersection with South First Avenue and a car driven by Carl Frank Walters, 71, of Marshalltown, was eastbound on East Anson Street attempting to turn left onto South First Avenue when the two vehicles collided in the intersection. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Walters car was estimated at $3,000 while the Dahms minivan received an estimated $4,000 in damage.

• On Monday, a vehicle driven by Kent Eric Smith, 56, of Coralville, was exiting a parking place at McDonald’s when it collided with a minivan driven by Kaitlynn Louise Wasekuk, 21, of Tama. No injuries were reported. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $2,000 each.

• On Tuesday, hit and run damage was reported to a Nissan Sentra which was disabled and parked on the shoulder on South 18th Avenue. Damage to the Nissan Sentra was estimated at $2,500.

• On Tuesday, a pickup driven by Wayne Wilbur Waltermire Jr., 54, of Marshalltown, was eastbound on East Iowa Avenue when the driver lost control and the rear end began fishtailing. The pickup exited the roadway onto a frontage road south of Iowa Avenue where it spun around and the driver’s side struck a tree. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Waltermire pickup was estimated at $6,000.

• On Tuesday, a pickup driven by Brandon Matthew Beer, 38, of Barnum, Minn., was southbound on South Sixth Street stopped at the intersection with Iowa Avenue West when the driver began to back up to accomodate a semi turning north onto Sixth Street and collided with the front of a car driven by Paul Anthony Tremain, 52, of Marshalltown. No injuries were reported. Beer was cited for unsafe backing. Damage to the Tremain car was estimated at $5,000.

• On Tuesday, a car driven by Guillermo Rebelo Yepez, 54, of Marshalltown, was eastbound on Anson Street stopped at the intersection with 12th Avenue and then proceeded forward colliding with a car driven by Faron Anne Rodriguez-Acosta, 35, of Marshalltown, which was southbound on 12th Avenue. No injuries were reported. Rebelo Yepez was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way. Damage to the Rebelo Yepez car was estimated at $5,000 while the Rodriguez-Acosta car received an estimated $1,000 in damage.

• On Tuesday, Cassie Eastwood, 32, was arrested for interference with official acts and driving under suspension.

• On Tuesday, David Weishaubt, 41, was arrested on a mittimus warrant for failure to serve jail time on a harassment-first degree charge.
