• Mathew Andrew McCanna made an initial appearance on a driving while barred-habitual offender charge, a driving while revoked charge, a driving under suspension charge, a leaving the scene of an accident-property damage only charge, a violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court charge and a failure to appear for a contempt hearing charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing on the driving charges is set at 1 p.m. on Feb. 18. The contempt hearing and failure to appear for a contempt hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond on the traffic charges is set at $2,000 cash or surety. Bond on the contempt charges is set at $1,500 cash only. A new no-contact order is issued for the protected party.

• Quincy James Bartels made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge and a voluntary absence from custody charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing on the absence charge is set at 1 p.m. on Feb. 18. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond is set at $3,000 cash only.

• Juan Rodrigo Barron Luna made an initial appearance on a domestic abuse assault causing bodily injury or mental illness charge, a no valid driver’s license charge and a no insurance charge. Barron Luna will hire his own counsel. The preliminary hearing on the driving charges is set at 1 p.m. on Feb. 18. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety. A no-contact order is issued for the protected party.

• Jacob Adam Poole made an initial appearance on a public intoxication charge. Poole pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days.

• Elena Louise Hinders made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Hinders pleaded guilty and the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due within 30 days.

• Brandyn Lee Jensen made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge and a driving under suspension charge. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Feb. 27.

• Curtis Charles McKeever made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge, a no registration plate charge, a speeding charge and a no valid driver’s license charge. McKeever pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on March 13 in Magistrate Court.

• Lilea Flower Moore made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Moore pleaded guilty and the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due within 30 days.

• Boe Reh made an initial appearance through a Karen interpreter on a operating while intoxicated -first offense charge, a possession of firearm while intoxicated charge, an open container charge and a failure to yield upon a left turn charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled 1 p.m on Feb. 27. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Ryan Scott Nichols made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case.

Accidents

• On Friday, a pickup driven by Derek Paul Speicher, 35, of Conrad, was eastbound on Marion Street when the driver took his eyes off the road resulting in a collision with the rear of a car driven by Rual Hleih Cung, 26, of Marshalltown, which had slowed to turn into a driveway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Speicher pickup was estimated at $1,000 while the Cung car received an estimated $2,500 in damage.
