Court — Tuesday

• Nathan Alexander Buchanan made an initial appearance on a possession of a controlled substance-third or subsequent offense charge. Jeff Hazen is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on May 17. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Jerry Lavelle Martin III made an initial appearance on a criminal mischief-fifth degree charge and a trespass charge. Martin pleaded not guilty to the criminal mischief charge and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on June 5 in Magistrate Court. Martin pleaded guilty to the trespass charge and the fine is $200 with a $70 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $330, due within 30 days.

• Brandon Lee Griggs made an initial appearance on two counts of a probation violation charge, a providing false identification information charge and a voluntary absence from custody charge. Tyler Heeren is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Court. Bond is set at $10,000 cash only. The preliminary hearing on the two new charges is set at 1 p.m. on May 17. Griggs is being held without bond.

Court — Wednesday

• Jeremy Lavender made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for a contempt hearing charge. Jeff Hazen is appointed as counsel. The contempt will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Lavender was release on his promise to appear.

• Jesse James Earhart made an initial appearance on a parole violation charge. The parole revocation hearing will be scheduled by the Administrative Law Judge and the Department of Correctional Services. Earhart is being held without bond.

• Stephanie M. Estrada made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for a contempt hearing on a child support case. Jennie Wilson-Moore is appointed as counsel. The contempt hearing will be scheduled by the District Court. Estrada is released on her promise to appear.

• Matthew Grant Snyder made an initial appearance on a possession of methamphetamine charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. Aron Vaughn is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on May 28. Snyder is released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services and is to report to the adult probation office within 48 hours to sign a pre-trial release agreement. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Crystal Marie Lennie made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge, a failure to appear for an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge and a simple assault charge. Tyler Heeren is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond is set at $2,000 cash only. The preliminary hearing on the new charges is set at 1 p.m. on May 17. Bond is set at $2,000 cash only.

• Gerald Richard Van Noller made an initial appearance on a violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court charge. Breanna Nelson is appointed as counsel. The contempt hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on May 20. Van Noller was released on his promise to appear. A new no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Tracy Lee Osborne made an initial appearance on a unsafe backing onto a highway charge and a leaving the scene of an accident-property damage only charge. Osborne pleaded guilty to both charges. The fine on the unsafe backing charge was $100 with a $35 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $195. The fine on the leaving the scene charge was $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75. All payments are due within 30 days.

• Stephen Wadle made an initial appearance on a no insurance charge. Wadle pleaded guilty and the fine is $250 with an $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due within 30 days.

Grundy County Sheriff

Arrests

• On Friday, Joshua Bartusek, 22, of Union, was arrested at the intersection of D-67 and Highway 14 and charged with operating while under the influence-first offense. Bartusek was released on his promise to appear.

• On Friday, Calista Fynaardt, 28, of Steamboat Rock, was arrested on 260th Street and charged with operating while under the influence-second offense. Fynaardt was released on her promise to appear.

Accidents

• On April 30, a vehicle driven by Julia Witt, 86, of Reinbeck, was eastbound on Highway 175 when it left the traveled portion of the roadway, entered the north ditch, struck a plastic post, continued on over the driveway to the golf course, striking the stop sign a the end of the drive and then struck an embankment to the south side of the ditch near the road. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Witt vehicle was estimated at #2,500.

• On May 1, A vehicle driven by Shamari Khamsai, 19, of Webster City was eastbound on Highway 20 when it lost control going on both the north and south shoulders before colliding with a vehicle driven by Cynthia Dreesman, 54, of Grundy Center resulting in both vehicles coming to rest in the south ditch. One driver was injured and taken to the emergency room. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $3,000 each.

• On Saturday, a car driven by Daniel Spooner, 45, of Sibley, was northbound on Highway 14 when it made a left turn in front of a car driven by Damond Jones, 20, of Cedar Falls, sideswiping it on the passenger side resulting in an nearly head-on collision with a car driven by Sheridan Farley, 66, of Reinbeck. A passenger in the Farley car was transported to Grundy County Memorial Hospital with upper torso injuries. Damage to the Spooner car was estimated at $8,000 while the Jones car received an estimated $5,000 in damage and the Farley car an estimated $6,000 in damage. The accident remains under investigation with the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office.

• On Sunday, a car driven by Skylar Nelson, 19, of Liscomb, was eastbound on D-67 east of J Avenue when the driver sneezed, drove onto the south shoulder, over-corrected the car, crossed the center line and entered the north ditch. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Nelson car was estimated at $2,000.
