Court — Thursday
• George Gomez made an initial appearance on a sex abuse-third degree-second or subsequent offense. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on June 21. Bond is set at $100,000 cash or surety. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.
• Eduardo Luis Soto made an initial appearance on a possession of methamphetamine with the intent to deliver charge and a failure to affix a drug tax stamp charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on June 21. Bond is set at $25,000 cash or surety. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.
• Christopher Harry Reber made an initial appearance on a carrying weapons charge, a speeding charge, a driving under suspension charge and a unlawful possession of prescription drugs charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on June 21. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.
• Dakota Allen Carpenter made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge, a speeding charge, a no valid driver’s license charge and a no insurance charge. Carpenter pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on July 24 in Magistrate Court.

Incidents
• On Wednesday, a theft from a building was reported to the Marshalltown Police Station.
• On Wednesday, damage to property in an attempted burglary was reported in the 900 block of Iowa Avenue West.
Arrests
• On Wednesday, George Gomez, 20, was arrested for sexual abuse-third degree.
Accidents
• On June 7, a car driven by Devin Anthony Edward Bilek, 20, of Clinton, was attempting a left turn from Center Street onto Iowa Avenue East when it crossed the path of a Jeep driven by Randy Lewis Dostal, 68, of Marshalltown, resulting in a collision which caused the Bilek car to spin out of control and collide with a car driven by Beverly Joan Lynch, 82, of Marshalltown, which was stopped for a red light. Dostal was transported to UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown. Damage to the Bilek car and the Dostal Jeep were estimated at $5,000 each while the Lynch car received an estimated $800 in damage.
