• A 17-year-old male made an initial appearance on a striking an unattended vehicle charge and a violation of a minor license charge. He pleaded guilty to both charges. The fine on the minor license charge is $50 with a $17.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $127.50. The fine on the striking unattended vehicle is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75. All payments are due within 30 days.

• Astrid Garcia made an initial appearance on a no insurance charge. After proof of insurance was produced the charge was dismissed with court costs of $60 assessed, due within 30 days.

• A 16-year-old male made an initial appearance on a reckless driving charge, two speeding charges and a failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way charge. He pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 16 in Magistrate Court.

• Charles Leroy Lee Hovey made an initial appearance on a failure to use seat belt charge and a driving under suspension charge. The pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 16 in Magistrate Court.

• Casey General Store failed to make an appearance on an alarm infraction charge and the court entered a plea of guilty. The fine is $50 with a $17.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $127.50, due within 30 days.

• Millicent Lorene Thompson made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. The pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 2 in Magistrate Court.

• Sean Patrick Woodard made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Woodard pleaded guilty and the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50 due within 30 days.

• Marc Christopher Plettenberg made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. The pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 16 in Magistrate Court.

• Matthew Joseph Schaumburg made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. The pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 16 in Magistrate Court.

• Rodney Shogren made an initial appearance on a theft-second degree charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Oct. 3. Shogren is released on his promise to appear.

• Kelly Kemp made an initial appearance on a no registration charge. After proof of registration was produced the charge was dismissed with court costs of $60 assessed, due within 30 days.

• Diana Lynn Strickland made an initial appearance on a no rabies vaccination charge. The case was dismissed with court costs of $60 assessed, due within 30 days.

• On Thursday, a case of burglary of a motor vehicle was reported in the 1300 block of Larkfield Court.

Accidents

• On Thursday, a motorcycle driven by Zachary Wayne Bennett, 20, of Baxter, was southbound on South Center Street when the driver locked up the front brakes trying to stop quickly resulting in the motorcycle sliding into a Jeep driven by Edie Marie Pentz, 29, of Marshalltown, and falling over. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Bennett motorcycle was estimated at $2,000.

• On Wednesday, a minivan driven by Clair Eugene Elsberry, 80, of Marshalltown, was turning onto South Center Street and turned into the closed lane at which time the driver tried to change to the open lane and collided with a bus driven by James F. Chubb, of Marshalltown. No injuries were reported. Bennett was cited for improper use of lanes. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $1,000 each.

Arrests

• On Thursday, Dana Rea Coleman, 42, was arrested for no insurance, stopping on the paved portion of the highway, open container, operating while under the influence-first offense.

• On Thursday, Edwin Fernando Velasquez Barahona, 25, was arrested for driving while barred.

• On Thursday, Elizabeth Marie Bell, 31, was arrested on a warrant.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to an unauthorized burning at 205 N. First St. and eight medical assists with the EMS crew to: 111 N. Third Ave., 1710 W. Lincoln Way, 1 W. Grant St., 910 E. Olive St., 402 N. 10th Ave., 217 Huisman Circle, 105 N. 25th St., 208 E. Church St.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to seven medical assists with the EMS crew to: 3000 S. Center St., 1501 E. Nevada St., 609 Roberts Terrace, 312 W. Boone St., 8 E. Main St., 211 W. Olive St. and 309 W. Merle Hibbs Blvd.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries at 600 W. Boone St., a medical assist with the EMS crew to 202 N. Second Ave. and three dispatched/cancelled en routes to: 102 E. State St., Highway 30 and Dillon Road and 814 N. Fifth Ave.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to an alarm system activation due to malfunction at 212 W. Ingledue St., a dispatched/cancelled en route to 111 E. Linn St. and seven medical assists with the EMS crew to: 308 S. Third St., 122 W. Main St., 3302 S. Center St., 2109 S. Fifth St., 1 W. Grant St., 12 N. Fourth St. and 1005 W. State St.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to an unauthorized burning at 902 May St., a motor vehicle accident with injuries at Durham Avenue and Highway 30, a dispatched/cancelled en route to 633 Lincoln Way and four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 1904 Summit St., 200 S. 12th Ave., 407 W. Main St. and 1302 S. Third Ave.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to seven medical assists with the EMS crew to: 314 Sharon Ave., 304 Nicholas Drive, 201 W. Ingledue St., 206 Nicholas Drive, 605 N. First Ave., 309 W. Merle Hibbs Blvd. and 101 NewCastle Road.

Sept. 2

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries at Highway 14 and Garwin Road, an unauthorized burning at 105 1/2 S. Seventh Ave., a dispatched/cancelled en route to 811 W. State St., a building fire at 204 N. First Ave. and five medical assists with the EMS crew to: 101 NewCastle Road, 208 N. 14th St., 3202 S. 12th St., 511 E. Olive St. and 508 S. Sixth St.
