• Blaze Ryan Krough made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge. Christian Stickrod is appointed as counsel. A pre-trial conference is set at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 30 in Magistrate Court. Kough is released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services and is to report to the adult probation office within 48 hours to sign a pre-trial release agreement.
• Frances Nadine Butler made an initial appearance on a operating while under the influence-first offense charge, a no valid driver’s license charge, a fraudulent use of registration charge, a no insurance charge, an open container charge and a improper brake light charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Oct. 17. Butler is released on her promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.
• Armando Garcia Ventura made an initial appearance on an unlawful passing of a school bus-first offense charge. Ventura pleaded guilty and the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due within 30 days.

• Alisha Marrie Fillyaw made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. A pre-trial conference is set at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 30 in Magistrate Court.
• Randy Thomas Haus made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Haus pleaded guilty and the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due within 30 days.
• Dedric Franklin Hatchitt made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge. Hatchitt pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $272.75, due within 30 days.
• Milagras Lopez Jones made an initial appearance on a no insurance charge and a speeding charge. Jones provided proof of insurance and the charges were dropped with court costs of $60 assessed. Jones pleaded guilty to the speeding charge and the fine is $40 with a $14 surcharge, a $5 county enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $119. All payments are due within 30 days.
• Margarita Mendoza Levya made an initial appearance on a no insurance-accident charge. Mendoza Levya pleaded guilty and the fine is $500 with a $175 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $735, due within 30 days.
• Patrick Patterson made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for an initial appearance on a use of a cellular device while operating w motor vehicle charge. Patterson pleaded not guilty. A pre-trial conference is set at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 30 in Magistrate Court.
• Gerald Edwin Shaffer failed to make an appearance on a driving under suspension charge and a no valid driver’s license charge. The court found Shaffer guilty on both counts. On the driving under suspension charge the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50. The fine on the no valid driver’s license is $200 with a $70 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $330. All payments are due within 30 days.
• Sucet Diaz failed to make an appearance on a driving under suspension charge. The court found Diaz guilty. On the driving under suspension charge the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50 due within 30 days.
• Jerome Lee Watson made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge, a driving under suspension charge and a violation of a restricted license charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Oct. 17. Watson was ordered to be photographed and fingerprinted in connection with this case.
• Kathryn Rose Loutsch Chandler made an initial appearance on a public intoxication-first offense charge and she pleaded guilty. The fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days.
• Delaurentiss Caetano Arnell Thomas made an initial appearance on a criminal mischief-fifth degree charge. Thomas pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $272.75, due within 30 day, plus restitution if applicable.

Accidents
• On Thursday, a car driven by Kathy Jo Brockway, 62, of Olathe, Kan., was attempting to exit a private parking lot onto South Third Avenue when she pulled in front of a pickup driven by Kirk Dean Stackhouse, 59, of Marshalltown, which was blocked from view due to parked cars. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Brockway car was estimated at $2,500 while the Stackhouse pickup received an estimated $50 in damage.
• On Wednesday, a vehicle driven by Teddi Lou Brothers, 75, of Marshalltown, was eastbound on Anson Street when it collided with the rear of a car driven by Bertha Liliana Herrera, 42, of Marshalltown, which was slowing to make a turn into a driveway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Herrera car was estimated at $800 while the Brothers vehicle received an estimated $1,500 in damage.
• On Tuesday, Sept. 24, a car driven by Alfredo Nunez-Corona, 51, of Marshalltown, was backing up in a church parking lot after picking up a child from school when it collided with a Dodge Caravan which was dropping a child off. The two vehicles left together and reported the incident from a different location. No injuries were reported. Nunez-Corona was cited for no insurance-accident. Damage to the Nunez-Corona car was estimated at $1,000 while the Dodge Caravan received an estimated $2,000 in damage.

• On Monday, a case of criminal mischief in the commission of a burglary with damage valued between $1,000 – $10,000 was reported in Marshall County.
