Marshall County Courthouse Court — Thursday

• Cheyenne Lucille Johnson made an initial appearance on an arson-second degree charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Oct. 25. Bond is set at $10,000 cash only.

• Richard Louis Sweet made an initial appearance on a theft-first degree charge. Sweet will hire Colin Murphy as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Oct. 25. Bond is set at $10,000 cash only.

• Kimberly Slingluff Oelmann made an initial appearance on a theft-third degree charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Nov. 6. Slingluff Oelmann is released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services and is to report to the adult probation office within 48 hours to sign a pre-trial release agreement.

• Anthony Bryant Weatherly made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge, a driving while revoked charge and a speeding charge. Weatherly will hire Chad Frese as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Nov. 6. Weatherly is released on his promise to appear.

• Sara Anne Brimmer made an initial appearance on a leaving the scene of an accident/failure to provide aid or information charge, an operating while under the influence-first offense charge, a open container charge and a driving on the wrong side of a two-way highway charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Nov. 6. Brimmer is released on her promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

Incidents

• On Wednesday, a theft involving shoplifting was reported in the 1100 block of East Nevada Street.

Arrests

• On Wednesday, Richard Sweet, 44, was arrested for theft-first degree.

• On Wednesday, Cheyenne Johnson, 19, was arrested on a warrant.

• On Wednesday, Shonnelle Holmes, 24, was arrested for possession of marijuana-third or subsequent offense and driving while barred.

Accidents

• On Wednesday, a motorcycle driven by Michael David Pickett, 54, of Marshalltown, was northbound on South Third Avenue at the intersection with East Church Street when it ran a red light and collided with a Jeep driven by Charissa Jasmine Baedke, 34, of Beaman. Pickett took himself to the UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown emergency room for evaluation. Pickett was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device. Damage to the Pickett motorcycle was estimated at $4,000 while the Baedke Jeep received an estimated $7,000 in damage.

• On Wednesday, a Jeep driven by Jocelyne Noem Cardenas Sotelo, 22, of Marshalltown, was exiting Aldi’s parking lot onto the Frontage Road when it collided with a car driven by Connor James Linton, 23, of Marshalltown. No injuries were reported. Cardenas Sotelo was cited for failure to yield upon a left turn. Damage to the Cardenas Sotelo Jeep was estimated at $2,000 while the Linton car received an estimated $8,000 in damage.

Arrests

• On Wednesday, Ryan Roop, 25, was arrested on a warrant.

Accidents

• On Monday, a car driven by Chandler Kristine Kendall, 20, of Marshalltown, was southbound on Highway 330 when it crested a hill and collided with the rear of a pickup driven by Marlom Steve Villatoro, 44, of Des Moines, sending it into the west ditch where it rolled and came to rest on its top. Villatoro was transported to UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown for observation. Damage to the Villatoro pickup was estimated at $10,000 while the Kendall car received an estimated $20,000 in damage.

• On Wednesday, a car driven by John Joseph Guthrie, 20, of Marshalltown, was northbound on Sanford Avenue when it struck a deer that entered the roadway causing major damage. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Guthrie car was estimated at $6,000.
