Court — Friday

• Hunter Duane Schaper made an initial appearance on an operating while under the influence-second offense charge and a driving under suspension charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Jan. 16, 2020. Schaper is released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services and is to report to the adult probation office by 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 27 to sign a pre-trial release agreement.

• Justin Scott Zitzow made an initial appearance on a forgery charge and an identity theft charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Jan. 6, 2020. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety.

• Dionte Bryant Trimble made an initial appearance on a domestic abuse assault-third or subsequent offense charge and a false imprisonment charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Jan. 6, 2020. Bond is set at $20,000 cash only. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Brittany Joeanne Blocker made an initial appearance on a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. Blocker pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $10 DARE surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $282.75, due within 30 days.

• Jacob Rudolph Hans made an initial appearance on an interference with official acts charge and a no valid driver’s license charge. Hans pleaded guilty to both charges. On the interference charge the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50. The driver’s license fine is $200 with a $70 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $330. All payments are due in 30 days.

• Conchita V. Harms made an initial appearance on a failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way charge. Harms pleaded guilty and the fine is 100 with a $35 surcharge, a $5 county enforcement surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $200, due within 30 days.

• Victor Hernandez Moreno made an initial appearance on a driving while revoked charge, a driving under suspension charge and a no insurance charge. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Jan. 16, 2020. Moreno is released on his promise to appear.

• Dawn Ngoc Huynh made an initial appearance on a possession of methamphetamine charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Jan. 16, 2020. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Akoldo Mayat made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Mayat pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 29, 2020 in Magistrate Court.

• Marcos B. Rico made an initial appearance on an assault charge. Rico will hire his own counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Jan. 16, 2020.

• Lyda Maria Sandoval made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge and a no insurance charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Jan. 16, 2020. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case.

• Anthony Bouthany Savatdy made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge and a speeding charge. Savatdy pleaded guilty to both charges. The fine on the driving under suspension is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50. The fine on the speeding charge is $20 with a $7 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $87. All payments are due within 30 days.

• Christine Louise Sheppard made an initial appearance on a harassment-third degree charge. Sheppard pleaded not guilty. Jennie Wilson-Moore is appointed as counsel. A pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 29, 2020, in Magistrate Court. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Jamie Lee Davis failed to make an appearance on a driving under suspension charge, a no insurance charge and a speeding charge. The court found Davis guilty on all charges. The fines on the driving under suspension and no insurance charges was $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, each. The fine on the speeding charge is $20 with a $7 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $87. All payments are due within 30 days.

• Amy Jo Kabrick failed to make an appearance on a driving under suspension charge. The court found Kabrick guilty and the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due within 30 days.

Dec. 16

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a dispatched/cancelled en route to 606 E. State St., a smoke detector activation due to a malfunction at 1301 Summit St. and six medical assists with the EMS crew to: 1400 Lincoln Towers Circle, 1504 W. Church St., 105 W. Boone St., 312 E. Main St., 306 Nicholas Drive and 1504 W. Church St.

Dec. 17

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a no incident found upon arrival at dispatched address at 208 S. Third Ave., an alarm system activation-no fire-unintentional at 30 E. Main St. and seven medical assists with the EMS crew to: 122 W. Main St., 2001 Fremont St., 2 N. Second Ave., 2802 S. Center St., 513 E. Olive St., 1 W. Grant St. and 1005 S. Eighth Ave.

Dec. 18

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a cooking fire confined to the container at 303 W. Linn St. and a motor vehicle accident with no injuries at Iowa Avenue and South Sixth Street.

Dec. 19

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to three medical assists with the EMS crew to: 505 N. 14th Ave., 8 Santa Barbara Drive and 908 W. Boone St.

Dec. 20

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a no incident found upon arrival at dispatched address at East Merle Hibbs Boulevard and six medical assists with the EMS crew to: 202 N. Second Ave., 504 Iowa Ave. West, 202 N. Second Ave., 1211 W. State St., May Street and South Ninth Avenue and 304 N. Fourth St.

Dec. 21

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a smoke detector activation-no fire-unintentional at 101 NewCastle Road, an extrication of victims from vehicle at 2200 240th St., a special outside fire at 303 W. Southridge Road, a natural vegetation fire at 408 S. Ninth St., a dispatched/cancelled en route to 2012 S. Sixth St., a building fire at 711 N. Fifth Ave., a carbon monoxide incident at 501 E. Boone St. and six medical assists with the EMS crew to: 3108 S. Center St., 1006 Ratcliffe Drive, 112 N. First St., 1009 S. Ninth Ave., 1701 W. State St. and 10 E. State St.

Dec. 22

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a gasoline or other flammable liquid spill at 3202 S. 12th St. and five medical assists with the EMS crew to: 1704 Rainbow Drive, 802 S. Center St., 208 N. First Ave., 112 N. First St. and 122 W. Main St.

Grundy County Sheriff

Arrests

• On Nov. 27, Nichelle Woods, 46, of Cedar Falls, was arrested by Black Hawk County authorities on a Grundy County warrant charging her with two counts of unlawful use of a credit card. Woods posted bond and was released.

• On Dec. 3, Timothy Madden, 37, of Wellsburg, was arrested on 215th Street west of L Avenue and charged with eluding. Madden posted bond and was released.

• On Dec. 7, Joshua Malott, 41, of Waterloo, was arrested by Black Hawk County authorities on a Grundy County warrant charging him with probation violation. Malott is being held in lieu of bond.

• On Dec. 10, Richard Rizzo, 54, of Grundy Center, was arrested in Iowa Falls and charged with domestic abuse assault. Rizzo posted bond and was released.

• On Dec. 13, James Choate, 44, of Latimer, was arrested by Butler County authorities on a Grundy County warrant charging him with theft-first degree. Choate is being held in lieu of bond.

• On Dec. 16, Donye Rowan, 26, of Grundy Center, was arrested by Black Hawk County authorities on a Grundy County warrant charging him with domestic abuse assault. Rowan is being held in lieu of bond.

• On Dec. 17, Jason Bakker, 46, of Wellsburg, was arrested at the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office and charged with sexual abuse-third degree and enticing a minor under 16. Bakker posted bond and was released.

• On Dec. 20, Nicholas Zook, 35, of Traer, was arrested on Highway 175 east of Grundy Center and charged with driving while barred. Zook posted bond and was released.

• On Dec. 22, Carter Fogt, 22, of Grundy Center, was arrested on Highway 20 east of Dike and charged with operating while under the influence-first offense and possession of a dangerous weapon while under the influence. Fogt was released on his promise to appear.

Accidents

• On Dec. 2, a vehicle driven by Tyler Blackburn, 33, of Gladbrook, was northbound on K Avenue approaching the intersection with 310th Street when it struck a large metal drag that had fallen off of a farm plow and was in the middle of the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Blackburn vehicle was estimated at $3,000.

• On Dec. 8, a vehicle driven by Jelissa Sizemore, 28, of New Hartford, was eastbound on 160th Street east of R Avenue when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Sizemore vehicle was estimated at $3,000.

• On Dec. 9, a vehicle driven by Norman Houston, 62, of Eldora, was traveling on Highway 20 when due to the roads being icy/snowy, the high winds blew him onto the north shoulder where he lost control, entered the north ditch and rolled once before coming to a stop. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Houston vehicle was estimated at $12,000.

• On Dec. 11, a car driven by Kristi Fox, 45, of Waterloo, was westbound on D-35 east of T-65 when the driver lost control of the vehicle and entered the south ditch. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Fox car was estimated at $2,000.

• On Dec. 14, a vehicle driven by Kyle Finnegan, 21, of Cedar Falls, was eastbound on Highway 20 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Finnegan vehicle was estimated at $10,000.

• On Dec. 15, a car driven by Emeal Myles, 33, of Cedar Falls, was eastbound on Highway 20 when it collided with the rear of a vehicle driven by Sarah Larson, 31, of Cedar Falls. No injuries were reported. Myles was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to the Myles car was estimated at $1,500 while the Larson vehicle received an estimated $300 in damage.

• On Dec. 15, a vehicle driven by Miles Scott, 19, of Sergeant Bluff, was eastbound on Highway 20 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Scott vehicle was estimated at $1,500.
