• Roger Evans Walker made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for an arraignment hearing. Wes Hoyer is acting as counsel. The arraignment hearing is rescheduled for 9 a.m. on Dec. 12. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety.

• Dean Allen Oziah made an initial appearance on a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. Oziah pleaded guilty and the fine is $105 with a $15.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $180.75.

• Brian Michael Lex made an initial appearance on a older individual assault-first offense charge. Dusty Clements is appointed as counsel. A pre-trial conference is scheduled for 9:40 a.m. on Jan. 4, 2023, in Magistrate Court. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Carlos Jara Cruz made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. A pre-trial conference is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 11, 2023, in Magistrate Court.

Accidents

• On Monday, Dec. 5, a pickup driven by Cody Douglas Walters, 25, of Marshalltown, was westbound on Iowa Avenue when it struck a deer that entered the roadway from the north ditch. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Walters pickup was estimated at $4,500.

• On Sunday, Dec. 4, an SUV driven by Thomas Scott Waite, 69, of Garwin, was westbound on Main Street Road when it struck a deer that entered the traveled portion of the roadway from the south ditch. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Waite SUV was estimated at $4,000.
