• Isaias Guijosa made an initial appearance on a possession of a controlled substance-first offense charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. on July 6. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety.
Guijosa also appeared on a warrant for failure to appear on an initial for a possession of marijuana-first offense charge and a possession of methamphetamine charge. Taylor Reichardt is appointed as counsel. The net hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court.
• Daniel Dion Scates made an initial appearance on a violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court charge. Arch Wilson III will continue as counsel. The show cause of why Scates should not be charged with contempt hearing is set for 11:45 a.m. on July 5. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety. A new no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Miguel Ang Villafana Aguilera made an initial appearance on a fireworks charge. Villafana Aguilera pleaded guilty and the fine is $250 with a $37.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $347.50.
• Mary Jane Conception Ortiz failed to appear on a speeding charge, two counts of a driving under suspension charge and a no insurance charge. The court found her guilty on all charges. The fine on the speeding charge is $30 with a $4.50 surcharge and $55 in court costs for a total of $89.50. The fines on the driving under suspension are $250 each with a $37.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $347.50 on each charge. The fine for the no insurance is $325 with a $48.75 surcharge and $55 in court costs for a total of $428.75.
• Merida Vishaj made an initial appearance on a theft-third degree charge. The preliminary hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. on July 14.
• Istref Vishaj made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge. A pre-trial conference is set for 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 30 in Magistrate Court.

Accidents
• On Sunday, June 4, an SUV driven by Iris Lisseth Jovel De Hernandez, 35, of Marshalltown, was eastbound on Highway 30 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Jovel De Hernandez SUV was estimated at $7,500.
• On Saturday, June 3, an SUV driven by Dennis William Myers, 73, of Marshalltown, was eastbound on Highway 30 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Myers SUV was estimated at $4,500.
• On Friday, June 2, a car driven by Mary Margaret Jackson, 29, of Rhodes, was northbound on Cooper Avenue when it struck a deer that ran out in front of the car. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Jackson car was estimated at $7,000.
• On Tuesday, May 30, an SUV driven by Ankush Kumar Mishra, 27, of Ames, was westbound on Highway 30 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Mishra SUV was estimated at $4,500.
