• Byron Lloyd Barker made an initial appearance on a possession of methamphetamine charge, a driving under suspension charge and two counts of a failure to appear for a driving while barred trial charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel for the drug charge and the driving under suspension charge. The preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. on Dec. 7. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court. The pre-trial conference for the driving while barred charges is reset for 1 p.m. on Dec. 27 with the jury trial set for 9 a.m. on Jan. 4, 2024. Bond is set at $2,000 cash.

• Cindy Sue Keleher made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge and a speeding charge. A pre-trial conference is set for 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 31, 2024, in Magistrate Court.

• Trevor Dashawn Weidler made an initial appearance on a violation of probation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court.

• Angela Edith Venegas made an initial appearance on a speeding charge and a driving under suspension charge. A pre-trial conference is set for 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 31, 2024, in Magistrate Court.

• Grant Edward Mettlin made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. A pre-trial conference is set for 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 31, 2024, in Magistrate Court.

• Janice Lynn Sparks made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge. Sparks pleaded guilty and the fine is $105 with a $15.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $180.75.

• On Tuesday, Nov. 28, Heidi Hala, 38, was arrested for theft-fifth degree-shoplifting.

• On Tuesday, Nov. 28, Michael Martinez, 38, was arrested for theft-third degree-shoplifting.

• On Tuesday, Nov. 28, Dennis Arment, 68, was arrested on a warrant.

• On Tuesday, Nov. 28, Juliann Johnson, 59, was arrested for prohibited passing-on grade or hill and operating while under the influence-first offense.

Accidents

• On Monday, Nov. 13, a car driven by Madison Diana Dougall, 22, of Marshalltown, was northbound on Highway 14 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Edwards car was estimated at $3,000.
