• Craig Alan Howell made an initial appearance on a violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court charge. Jeff Hazen is appointed as counsel. A pre-trial conference is set for 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 7. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Sean Drew Williams made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana-first offense charge and a failure to appear for a pre-trial conference charge. Arch Wilson is acting as counsel. The preliminary hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 2. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court. The pre-trial conference will be rescheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety.

• Trevor Dashawn Weidler made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana-third or subsequent offense charge and a violation of probation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 2. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Weidler is being held without bond.

• Adelfio Frederick Lamonto Jr., made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge and a failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 13.

• Angelica Maria Barrios De Alfaro made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Barrios De Alfaro pleaded guilty and the fine is $250 with a $37.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $347.50.

• Taylor Dawn Lynch made an initial appearance on a driving while revoked charge. The preliminary hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 13.

• Noe Hernandez Cordero made an initial appearance on a operating while under the influence-first offense charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 13. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court.

Arrests

• On Tuesday, Jan. 23, Sean Williams, 58, was arrested for possession of marijuana-first offense and on a warrant.

• On Tuesday, Jan. 23, Craig Howell, 57, was arrested for contempt of court/violation of a no-contact order.

• On Tuesday, Jan. 23, Trevor Weidler, 40, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance-third or subsequent offense.

Accidents

• On Sunday, Dec. 31, 2023, a pickup driven by Isrrael Vargas, 21, of Marshalltown, was westbound on Quarry Road when the driver swerved to miss a deer that entered the roadway and lost control of the vehicle resulting in it rolling onto the driver’s side. No injuries were reported. Vargas was cited for no insurance-accident. Damage to the Vargas pickup was estimated at $7,500.
