• Bryan Rodriguez Escamilla made an initial appearance on an operating while under the influence-second offense charge, a driving while barred charge, a possession or carrying of dangerous weapons charge, a failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way charge, a failure to maintain control charge, a speeding charge and a person under 21 using tobacco/vapor products charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. on March 29. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court.

• On Monday, March 11, Blaine Gentry, 20, was arrested on a warrant charging him with harassment-third degree.
• On Monday, March 11, Juan Saldana Diaz, 27, was arrested for driving while barred-habitual offender.
Accidents
• On Sunday, March 10, a minivan driven by Natasha Paige Frazier, 31, of Traer, was driving northeast on Marsh Avenue when it struck a deer that entered the roadway from the east ditch. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Frazier minivan was estimated at $2,000.
• On Thursday, March 7, a car driven by Vicki Marcene Cox, 69, of Gilman, was southbound on Zeller Avenue when it swerved to miss striking a deer and drove into the ditch sustaining front end, undercarriage and rear end damage. A 72-year-old male passenger was transported to UnityPoint-Marshalltown Emergency Room. Damage to the Cox car was estimated at $10,000.
