• William Lee McKenzie made an initial appearance on an operating while under the influence-second offense charge, a no valid driver’s license charge, a speeding charge and a no insurance charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. on June 12. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court.

• Richard Allen Fondell made an initial appearance on a rabies vaccination violation charge. Fondell pleaded guilty and the fine is $105 with a $15.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $180.75.

Accidents
• On Thursday, May 23, a car driven by Hannah Marika Peterson, 25, of Cedar Rapids, was eastbound on Highway 30 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Peterson car was estimated at $1,500.
• On Sunday, May 5, a car driven by Lynne Marie Savago-Brustkern, 32, of Waterloo, was eastbound on Highway 30 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway resulting in heavy front end damage requiring a tow. Damage to the Savago-Brustkern car was estimated at $7,500.
