• Victor Carrillo Jr. made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for a sentencing hearing charge. The sentencing hearing will be rescheduled by the District Associate Court. Carrillo is being held without bond.

• Jerri Dean Baker made an initial appearance on an assault causing bodily injury or mental illness charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. on June 19. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Justin Theodore Lisk made an initial appearance on a domestic abuse assault-first offense charge. The preliminary hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. on June 19. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Stephen Robert Szabo made an initial appearance on a violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court charge. Szabo entered a written plea of not guilty. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety.

Szabo was also seen for a keeping a premises or vehicle for the purpose of controlled substance violation charge, a possession of methamphetamine-first offense charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. The preliminary hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. on June 7. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court.

• Jake Morgan Wallen made an initial appearance on a interference with official acts charge and a trespass-first offense charge. A pre-trial conference is set for 9:30 a.m. on June 19 in Magistrate Court.

• James Mason Smith made an initial appearance on a voluntary absence from custody charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. on June 7. Smith is being held without bond.

Accidents

• On Tuesday, May 28, a car driven by Ashlee Morgan Krukow, 30, of Marshalltown, was eastbound on Iowa Avenue when it struck a dog that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Krukow car was estimated at $2,500.

• On Friday, May 24, a Jeep driven by Celsie Ann Van Wey, 30, of Toledo, was eastbound on Highway 30 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Van Wey Jeep was estimated at $6,000.

• On Thursday, May 23, a passenger van driven by Michael Scott Lane, 67, of Randalia, was northbound on Highway 330 when a deer came out of the median and was struck resulting in moderate damage to the passenger side of the vehicle. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Lane passenger van was estimated at $8,000.

• On Tuesday, May 14, a car driven by Daniel James Fiser, 25, of Marshalltown, was westbund on Highway 30 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Fiser car was estimated at $7,500.

• On Saturday, May 11, a car driven by Abby Marie Dahms, 45, of Gladbrook, was eastbound on Main Street Road when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Dahms car was estimated at $2,500.
