• Raymond Walker Demayo Jr. made an initial appearance on a burglary-third degree charge, a theft-third degree charge, a possession of drug paraphernalia charge, a possession of burglar’s tools charge, a person ineligible to carry a dangerous weapon charge and a possession of methamphetamine-first offense charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is set at 9:30 a.m. on June 20. Bond is set at $5,000 cash. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court.

Accidents
• On Saturday, May 31, a car driven by Brandon Lee Hanson, 36, of Des Moines, was eastbound on Highway 30 when it struck a deer that ran in front of his car resulting in severe damage. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Hanson Car was estimated at $10,000.
