• Edgar Alejandro Yepez made an initial appearance on a homicide by vehicle charge, a knowingly leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death charge and a child endangerment charge. The preliminary hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 5. Bond is set at $50,000 cash. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.
• Jeffrey Lynn Ross made an initial appearance on a controlled substance violation charge, a possession of a controlled substance-third or subsequent offense charge, a possession of drug paraphernalia charge and a stopping, standing or parking where prohibited charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 5. Bond is set at $10,000 cash. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court.
• Elijah Lala Gibson made an initial appearance on a violation of probation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond is set at $2,000 cash in defendant’s name only.
• Jose Luis Ordaz Sanchez made an initial appearance on an unlawful passing of a school bus charge. A pre-trial conference is set for 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 7, 2026, in Magistrate Court.
• Marguarite Anvalee Hernandez made an initial appearance on a public intoxication charge. Hernandez pleaded guilty and the fine is $105 with a $15.75 surcharge and $170.25 in court costs for a total of $300.
• Gregory Allen Brown made an initial appearance on a failure to maintain control charge. A pre-trial conference is set for 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 17 in Magistrate Court.

Arrests
• On Monday, Nov. 24, Elijah Gibson, 29, was arrested on a warrant charging him with violation of probation.
Accidents
• On Saturday, Nov. 22, a car driven by Edward Jerry Burroughs, 37, of Liscomb, was eastbound on Marble Road when it struck a deer that ran onto the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Burroughs car was estimated at $3,500.
• On Thursday, Nov. 20, a Jeep driven by Daniel Joseph Wright, 60, of Gilbert, was westbound on Highway 30 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Wright Jeep was estimated at $6,000.
• On Wednesday, Nov. 19, a minvan driven by Brian Hal Arrowood, 62, of Marshalltown, was northbound on Sanford Avenue when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Arrowood minivan was estimated at $3,000.
• On Saturday, Nov. 8, an SUV driven by Destyni Raine Grandstaff, 21, of Marshalltown, was eastbound on Garwin Road when it struck a deer that jumped onto the roadway from the south ditch.No injuries were reported.
• On Friday, Nov. 7, a car driven by Catherine Rose Brooke, 37, of Marshalltown, was westbound on Main Street Road when it struck a deer that exited the south ditch onto the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Brooke car was estimated at $2,000.
• On Friday, Nov. 7, a car driven by Mariselle Greyson Jones, 18, of Cedar Rapids, was eastbound on Highway 30 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Jones car was estimated at $10,000.
• On Friday, Nov. 7, an SUV driven by Kelly Dean Mick, 71, of Marshalltown, was eastbound on Highway 330 when it struck a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Mick SUV was estimated at $3,000.
