COURT

June 17

• Jessica Buenrostro Gonzalez made an initial appearance on two counts of a contempt of court/violation of a no-contact order charge. Brian Mercy is appointed as counsel. The contempt hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Salud Castillo made an initial appearance on a violation of parole charge. Tyler Haberman is appointed as counsel. The parole revocation hearing will be scheduled by the Administrative Law Judge. Castillo is being held without bond.

• Maria Guadalupe Medel Fonseca made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Medel Fonseca pleaded guilty and the fine is $250 with a $37.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $347.50.

• Kaily Lynette Ali Shah failed to appear on a trespass-first offense charge and the court found Ali Shah guilty. The fine is $500 with a $75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $635.

• Gustavo Gonzalez Torres made an initial appearance on two counts of an operating while under the influence-first offense charge, a failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way charge, a no insurance-accident charge and a failure to maintain control charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is at 9:30 a.m. on July 7. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court.

• Brenden Lee Walker made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana-first offense charge and a person under 21 using vapor products-first offense charge. Jennifer Weaver is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is waived. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to court.

• On Tuesday, June 16, Angela Dunbar, 26, was arrested for driving while barred-habitual offender.

• On Tuesday, June 16, Jessica Buenrostro-Gonzalez, 22, was arrested for contempt of court-violation of a no-contact order charge.

• On Tuesday, June 16, Gabriel Verbeski, 38, was arrested on a warrant.

Arrests

• On Tuesday, June 16, Casey Ahlhelm, 31, was arrested on a warrant charging her with driving while barred-habitual offender, possession of marijuana-first offense, Conspire intent to manufacture/deliver methamphetamine, failure to affix a drug tax stamp, open container, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana-first offense and possession of meth-first offense.

Accidents

• On Monday, June 15, a car driven by Ramon Alfredo Ubay Rodriguez, 58, of Toledo, was westbound on Highway 30 when it struck a deer that ran in front of the car. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Rodriguez car was estimated at $2,000.

• On Wednesday, June 10, a car driven by Jordan Robert Walters, 23, of West Des Moines, was southbound on Highway 330 when it struck a deer that jumped onto the roadway from the median resulting in the car entering the median where it came to a rest. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Walters car was estimated at $10,000.

• On Tuesday, June 9, an SUV driven by Chelle Marie Kriegel, 66, of Laurel, was southbound on Reed Avenue (Highway 14) when a deer ran into the side of her vehicle. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Kriegel SUV was estimated at $3,000.

• On Sunday, May 31, a pickup driven by Jose Antonio Ibarra Diaz, 36, of Marshalltown, was southbound on Underwood Avenue when it struck a deer that jumped onto the roadway from the west ditch. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Ibarra Diaz pickup was estimated at $2,000.

• On Saturday, May 30, a car driven by Caiden Eugene Priske, 18, of Gladbrook, was westbound on IA 96 when it spotted a bull in the roadway and took evasive action, but was unsuccessful and collided with the bull. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Priske car was estimated at $2,000.

• On Saturday, May 30, an SUV driven by a 14-year-old female from Grinnell was westbound on 237th Street near Cooper Avenue when she swerved to miss a fox in the roadway, lost control of the vehicle and exited the roadway where the SUV rolled into the ditch and landed on its top. No injuries were reported. The juvenile was cited for violation of special minor’s restricted license. Damage to the SUV was estimated at $14,000.
