‘Gospel Brunch’ runs through April 30 in Amana

AMANA — The Ox Yoke Inn of Amana has two more weeks left of their dinner theatre production that is a “Show to Savor.”

“Gospel Brunch,” produced by Deborah Kennedy (West Amana) of TKM productions, is an all new musical review show about hope and the history of gospel music, that is deliciously paired with the Ox Yoke’s legendary brunch!

In a recent review, it was described as ” Exuberant and Entertaining” in addition to “heartwarming entertainment that makes the sun shine on a cloudy day.”

Clark Skaggs (Cedar Rapids), Kimberli Maloy (Cedar Rapids), Meg Merckens (South Amana), Ursula Williams (Middle Amana), Jeanette Welch (Iowa City) and Kait Skaggs (Cedar Rapids) join Kennedy in this rich tradition of American Gospel music, and happily swing through an hour of gospel favorites with a brief narration about the history of the genre and how it has evolved through the decades. As one viewer stated, “Amana’s got talent!” Musical highlights of the show include an original rendition of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” and “Amazing Grace,” as well as favorites such as “O Happy Day,” and a sing-a-long medley that is sure to make you tap your toes and lift your heart.

When putting the show together, Kennedy stated this about preparing for the show: “If you google “Gospel Brunch,” you will find performances of it all over the country – Vegas, Memphis, New York, DC, Chicago, New Orleans and the list goes on and on. Many venues across the country have made it their Sunday staple. The concept for why it is so popular is very simple – it is comfort. You have comfort foods paired with music that is designed to make you feel good.”

Tickets are available in person, or by calling the Ox Yoke at 319-622-3441. Remaining performances are Sunday matinees, April 23 and 30, at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Arrive at the Ox Yoke, in Amana, approximately 90 minutes prior to show time to allow plenty of time to enjoy the popular Ox Yoke brunch. Show Tickets only are also available for $20.
