As far as major motion pictures go, they don’t get much bigger than the film “42.” The biography about the breakthrough baseball player Jackie Robinson will open in theaters Friday.

Marshalltown native and veteran actor Toby Huss is featured in the film playing Clyde Sukeforth, a third base coach and scout.

“It’s a big film and it’s a good role,” Huss told the Times-Republican. “I think this is the highest profile thing I’ve done in awhile.”

The 1983 Marshalltown High School graduate was featured in the promotional trailer for the film approaching the actor playing Robinson and saying “Are you Jackie Robinson.”

“It’s a nice little thing to have out there,” Huss said of being in the trailer for the film.

The film features one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, Harrison Ford. When Huss landed the role from an audition, he knew the movie had special star power.

“It has Harrison Ford and he doesn’t mess around,” Huss said.

Also adding to the appeal of the film is the director, Brian Helgeland, who wrote the screenplay for “L.A. Confidential,” which won him an Oscar.

“You could sort of tell Brian was approaching it the right way,” Huss said.

Huss will attend the premiere of the film Tuesday in Los Angeles with his daughter Charlotte.

Huss has been featured in dozens of films and television shows throughout the past two decades. One of his biggest roles of the past year was a guest starring spot as a Frank Sinatra impersonator turned murderer on “CSI.”

He said lately he’s been busy with voiceover work on animated films and television shows. Huss also will be featured in an upcoming movie with James Gandolfini and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

He is the son of Elma and the late Gerald Huss of Marshalltown.
