Schweser’s to open new store in Marshalltown
Women’s clothing retailer, Schweser’s, has announced it will open a new store in early October at the Marshall Town Center.
“Marshalltown is the right kind of town for Schweser’s,” said Ty Smith, president of Schweser’s Stores, Inc. “We only operate in strong Midwestern towns. We feel we can offer the women of these towns something they cannot find in the big chain stores. We offer personal service, fashions designed specifically for them, and most importantly we discount to prices that everyone can afford. We are confident that once a customer sees that value we offer, they will become a loyal customer.”
The new store will operate in the space – more than 5,000 square feet – formerly occupied by maurices at the southern end of the mall. Smith said the company is currently in the process of hiring 6-8 employees including a management team.
Smith told the Times-Republican that Schweser’s specializes in “value-based, brand name fashion apparel for misses, petite and plus sizes, as well as a selection of kids apparel. The fashion departments include casual wear, career wear, coordinating groups, coats and dresses. The store also carries a selection of accessories, gifts, toys, books and housewares.”
The Marshalltown store will be the 29th store for the company, which is based in Fremont, Neb., and has retail spaces in six Midwestern states. Eleven of the company’s stores are located in Iowa including Algona, Atlantic, Carroll, Centerville, Creston, Denison, Fort Dodge, Red Oak, Sioux Center, Sioux City and Spencer.
Ken Huge, general manager of the Marshall Town Center, said Schweser’s arrival is good news for the mall and Marshalltown.
“Well we’re very pleased to have Schweser’s join us,” he said. “Schweser’s has had success for a long time in smaller communities.”
Huge said Schweser’s is an attractive fit at the mall since it will provide not only women’s apparel, but kids’ apparel as well.
The Schweser’s announcement follows last week’s news that arts and crafts retailer Hobby Lobby will open a new 55,000 square-foot store at the Marshall Town Center sometime in early summer of 2015, employing 35-50 people.
“Our leasing people and our team have been working hard to build these relationships … to revitalize the leasing here at the mall, and I think we’re seeing the fruits of our labor,” said Huge.
