15Minutes – Compiled by Mike DonaheyPETER LIMAS Resides: Roland — a nice and quiet community. Hometown: Fort Madison, home to the state prison, the world’s longest swing span bridge — the Santa Fe Mississippi River bridge — and where the Mississippi flows east to west before heading south near Montrose. FAMILY LIFE Family: My family still lives in Fort Madison. I am the middle child of three, I have an older sister and a younger brother residing in “Fort Maddy,” as some call Fort Madison. I have been married 28 years to Mary and have two kids — Kathryn and Nathan, ages 10 and 12. We have been back in Iowa for 11 years, having lived in Kansas about 12 years previously. Pets: Cats Kittie and Casey. Hobbies and interests: I have a “small” interest in trains. It has been with me since birth. I follow my beloved Santa Fe Railway, which had a large presence in Fort Madison. I have written many articles, chapters, assisted with research for others, proofed other articles and written a book. I’ve had photos published too. All or most of this has been on the Santa Fe but my book was written on the Southern Pacific, which was a lifelong goal. Currently I am building a model railroad which is based upon southeastern Iowa and western Illinois, the Santa Fe and the Toledo, Peoria and Western RR. . WORK Occupation: I have been employed by Central Iowa Healthcare as a human resource generalist since Aug. 1. It is a “jack of all trades” position. We work the various aspects of human resources, from recruiting to benefits to worker’s compensation. I enjoy the different roles, changes and challenges. FAVORITES Book: “The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors” by James Hornfischer. I like to read about WW II battles involving the U. S. Navy. Foods: Not sure, but I like to cook and bake. Movies: “The Avengers” and “Gettysburg.” Sports: None. I quit following teams after I stopped playing baseball and football in college, However, I enjoy watching a good football and baseball game. One thing I love is trying to coach my son in baseball and note his development. COMMUNITY Local involvement: I like Roland. Plus my wife and I like the school district our kids are in right now.. Most Influential Person: Family. And those I have had the pleasure to be around. It is like the film “It’s a Wonderful Life” … how we impact each other and shape our daily life. Advice on life: Believe in your faith and follow the Lord, he will give you what you can handle each and every time. It is his direction that is most important. ————— 15 Minutes is a Saturday feature about Central Iowans. The question and answer format lends itself be completed or read in 15 minutes or less.
