Gladbrook man killed in semi-trailer/motorcycle collision

T-R PHOTO BY MIKE DONAHEY A Gladbrook man was killed Monday night when the motorcycle he was operating collided with a semi-trailer at the intersection of North 3rd Avenue (Highway 14) and Marion Street.

Authorities were called to a collision Monday night between a semi-truck and a motorcycle that claimed the life of a Gladbrook man.

According to the Iowa State Patrol at 9:25 p.m. Monday, a semi hauling livestock was southbound on North 3rd Avenue (Highway 14) preparing to turn left onto Marion Street to make a delivery to the JBS plant. The state patrol said upon initiating a left turn, the semi struck a motorcycle that was northbound on Highway 14.

The driver of the motorcycle, Gary Robert Johnson, 63, Gladbrook, was wearing a helmet, but died at the scene. The semi driver, Reid Thomas Gerhardt, 24, of Fairmont, Minn., was uninjured.
