Pictured recently is the new Holiday Inn Express under construction in the 100 block of Iowa Avenue West. The building will be four stories with 93 rooms, according to Om Patel of owner Hawkeye Hotels, an Iowa-based company. Patel told the Marshalltown City Council earlier this year the facility will have a $200 million economic impact from taxes, consumer spending and job creation over a 20-year period. Hotel officials estimate 35-40 full and part-time jobs will be created. Hotel amenities will include an indoor pool, exercise room, complimentary high-speed wireless Internet and business center. The project was two years in making with Marshall Economic Development and hotel officials working together. Holiday Inn Express is slated to open in January of 2018.
