Two women arrested in check fraud

Earlier this week Marshalltown police arrested two local women in connection with check fraud. Rochelle Marie Hernandez, 35, and Brynn Michelle Price, 32, were charged with ongoing criminal conduct, a Class B felony, forgery, a Class D felony, and theft in the third degree.

“We believe it is part of a scheme where an individual creates fake checks, gets others to cash them, then keeps most of the money,” said Capt. Brian Batterson of the MPD. According to Marshall County District Court records, Price allegedly presented a fake payroll check in the amount of $761.12, and received money in return from a local retailer. Batterson said the case remain under investigation, and more arrests are expected. Hernandez and Price are being held in Marshall County Jail on $5,000 cash or surety bond. Their preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on March 2.
