Local businessman Marty Mitchell of Mitchell Family Funeral Home said Marshalltonians need a break.

With memories of the vicious July 19 EF-3 tornado still fresh in many people’s minds, Mitchell said now is the time for all residents to show up at the Marshalltown Aquatic Center from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. today for a free-of-charge swim.

He had reserved the pool some time ago for free swim, but the tornado’s impact and resulting stress makes the timing perfect.

“I had previously reserved the pool,” said Mitchell, who has sponsored a number of free swim days over the past five years. “But now is right. Everybody needs a break … a couple of hours break, and not worry about anything. We take care of the admission, all people have to do is show up, relax and enjoy. There is a lot of stress out in the community, we want to help alleviate that for several hours. Bring the whole family and enjoy the aquatic center!”
