Tuesday morning the Marshall County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to approve the hiring of 127 personnel who will serve in a variety of capacities related to the 2018 election.

“We have folks that deliver equipment, folks that will be working where our absentee voting is going to occur, office help, folks to drive to healthcare facilities in Marshalltown to gather absentee votes prior to the election, plus election precinct election officials,” Marshall County Auditor/Recorder Nan Benson said.

Benson said those who will be hired for only one day generally don’t need the approval of the board, whereas other longer-serving workers do.

Absentee voting will occur in the Marshall County Annex Building, 101 E. Main St., instead of the Marshall County Courthouse, beginning Oct. 8. Voting will be available from Oct. 8 to Nov. 1 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Oct. 27, Nov. 2, 3 and 5 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

These hirings are within the previously set budget.

Those interested in election work need to be a resident of Marshall County and not be convicted of a felony. To apply, call the county election department at 641-754-6302.
