Marshalltown man charged with five felony drug counts

Horrell

A Marshalltown man was arrested on multiple drug felonies Tuesday by the Mid-Iowa Drug Task Force.

Agents with the MIDTF served a narcotics search warrant at 114 N. Center St. Apt. 4 in Marshalltown — the residence of Michael Douglas Horrell, 48.

Sheriff Steve Hoffman said the search warrant was the culmination of an investigation originating with MIDTF which works out of MCSO facilities. Officers found evidence of digital scales, marijuana, methamphetamine and Tramadol in an unmarked container. Tramadol is a schedule IV substance.

Hoffman said the MCSO was familiar with the defendant.

Two of the possession counts were third or subsequent offenses, a Class D felony. The defendant has prior drug convictions in July (meth), 2005 (meth) and 1996 (meth). Horrell is also on federal probation.

Additionally, criminal complaints and affidavits filed in Marshall County District Court show Horrell was charged with:

• Possession of Schedule IV controlled substance-serious.

• Keeping premises or vehicle for controlled substance violation.

• Tax stamp violation, a Class D felony.

• Possession of drug paraphernalia.

Horrell was transported to Marshall County Jail, where he was being held on $25,000 cash only bond. His preliminary hearing is Oct. 12.
