MFD crews extinguish two Lennox fires

Marshalltown Fire Department personnel spent part of Thursday fighting two fires at Lennox in the 200 block of South 12th Ave.

One civilian at the first incident was evaluated for smoke inhalation and released by emergency medical services.

No fire service personnel were injured as a result of either incident.

MFD responded to the first fire at 4:21 p.m.

Upon arrival, crews found light smoke coming from the roof. Upon investigation, it was discovered a roofing company repairing damage from the July 19 tornado inadvertently ignited roof deck materials while installing a new roof assembly. MFD personnel investigated above and below the roof deck for fire extension. The facility was evacuated and work was suspended for approximately one hour then resumed without incident. Approximately two hours later, the MFD returned for a large construction dumpster fire. The dumpster, located approximately 20 feet from the south side of the building, contained foam insulating material and buckets of tar from the previous incident. The fire was quickly brought under control with an elevated stream from a ladder truck. The building and manufacturing operation was unaffected.
