Highlights of 2018

T-R PHOTO BY MIKE DONAHEY - Earlier this year, Lance Cpl. Darwin Judge’s grave marker at the local Rose Hill Memorial Gardens was renovated. American Legion Post 46 Riders had a new granite slab installed and added a flower vase and plaque. Judge, 19, of Marshalltown along with Charles McMahon, Jr., 21, of Woburn, Mass. died just hours before the beginning of the evacuation of Saigon, which ended April 30, 1975.
T-R PHOTO BY SARA JORDAN-HEINTZ - The 104th annual Meskwaki Powwow draws folks not just from around Iowa, but from across the country. The four-day long festivities (Aug. 9-12) celebrated the people of the Meskwaki Settlement. The powwow, which first began as a religious celebration all those years ago, has evolved into a time to socialize, honor friendship and introduce non-Meskwaki natives to the culture. Here participants perform the Intertribal Dance.

As we wrap up the year, we will feature photos looking back at memorable events in our community.
