No injuries were reported in a house fire that caused $30,000 in damage. At 12:41 a.m. on Jan. 7, the Marshalltown Fire Department responded with Marshalltown Police Department and UnityPoint Health – Marshalltown EMS to 1001 S. Seventh Ave. on a reported house fire.

Upon arrival, MFD personnel observed smoke coming from the residence. The homeowner was on scene and stated everyone was out of the residence. Crews made entry into the home and found fire near the rear of the home in a laundry room and the fire was quickly extinguished. Portions of the ceiling were removed to check for fire extension.

Investigation determined the cause of the fire to be an overheated clothes dryer.
