Quick action by a passerby who notified the Marshalltown Fire Department of a dumpster fire at the Times-Republican prevented injuries and serious interior damage to the 92-year-old building. The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a report of the fire at 5:30 a.m. Sunday morning at the building’s west side in the 100 block of West Main Street. Marshalltown Fire Department Chief David Rierson said the cause has not been determined and it remains under investigation.
