A Marshalltown man is in the Marshall County Jail after being arrested by Marshalltown police on a charge of lascivious conduct with a minor, a serious misdemeanor.

Robert Allen Bird Jr., 34, while in a position of authority over a 17-year-old, persuaded the victim to disrobe and then send the defendant explicit nude photographs and an explicit video of the victim masturbating. The defendant then immediately sent the victim an explicit video of himself masturbating.

The defendant also persuaded the victim to participate in sex acts on three separate occasions, according to a criminal complaint and affidavit filed in Marshall County District Court.

At his initial appearance, a magistrate issued a no contact order against the defendant to protect the victim. Additionally, the magistrate appointed a public defender to represent the defendant. Bird’s preliminary hearing is June 17. He remains in jail on $1,000 cash/surety bond.
