Local man leads Des Moines police on 100 mph chase

A Marshalltown man faces a felony, aggravated misdemeanor and probation violation charges after attempting to elude Des Moines police reaching 100 miles per hour during an incident early Wednesday morning.

WHO-TV first reported Casey Eugene Sheriff, 46, initiated the pursuit just before 12:30 a.m when an officer tried to stop him on a warrant for probation violations. Sheriff took off, and during the chase, police said he reached excessive speeds.

The chase ended about 10 minutes after it started on R63 in Warren County and Sheriff was taken into custody. He is charged with eluding, driving while license denied and three probation violations. A probation revocation hearing is scheduled June 27, in Polk County District Court. Sheriff remains in the Polk County Jail without bond.
