Man arrested by sheriff on substance abuse warrants

A Marshalltown man was arrested by the Marshall County Sheriff’s office on warrants stemming from a 2017 incident involving the Mid-Iowa Drug Task Force, according to criminal complaints and affidavits filed in Marshall County District Court.

Eduardo Luis Soto, 30, was charged with substance abuse violation, a Class B felony, and failure to affix a drug stamp, a Class D felony. Soto allegedly sold nearly 76 grams of methamphetamine to agents of the MIDTF in the incident two years ago.

Marshall County Sheriff Steve Hoffman said the defendant had recently been released from by the Iowa Department of Corrections. Hoffman said his department had closed out the earlier case while the defendant was incarcerated. The charges were pending until his release.

At the defendant’s initial appearance, a magistrate set bond at $25,000 cash or surety. A public defender was appointed to represent him. The defendant’s preliminary hearing is June 21.
