Man charged with sex abuse second offense

Gomez

An Albion man has been charged with third degree sex abuse – second offense, a Class A felony, according to a criminal complaint and affidavit filed in Marshall County District Court.

Capt. Brian Batterson of the Marshalltown Police Department said the victim’s parents complained to the MPD about an incident involving George Gomez, 20, and their 12-year-old daughter. The MPD investigated and called Gomez in for questioning, where he was arrested at MPD headquarters and taken to Marshall County Jail.

Gomez was arrested for third degree sex abuse for the first time in 2016.

The defendant was ordered held on $100,000 cash-surety bond and appointed a public defender at his initial appearance Thursday. The court also issued a no contact order, meaning the defendant is not to have any contact with the victim. His preliminary hearing is June 21.
