Friday afternoon, the Iowa Veterans Home held its annual Wiener Dog Races in the courtyard between the Sheeler and Dack buildings. Nine dachshunds, ranging in age from six months old to 12 years, competed in the following categories: oldest, youngest, male, female, overall winner, biggest loser and battle of the sexes. Pictured is Huey, 2, left, and Abigail 10, right, who squared off in the race between the winners of the oldest and youngest category. Huey won. The other dogs that competed were: Teddy, Molly, Charlie, Josie, Ember and two Oscars.
