Dumpster deal leads to felony charge
Deal
Justin Carroll Deal, 39, of Ames, was arrested by a Marshall County Sheriff’s Office deputy on Tuesday and taken to jail on second-degree theft charges, a Class D felony.
On Aug. 8 2018, a Le Grand business delivered trash dumpsters for restorations to Renew Equipment & Engineering and subcontractor welder Deal, according to the complaint.
In May, the business attempted telephone contact with Deal but calls were not returned.
In April, photo evidence had been discovered of the same dumpsters located at Deal’s home address. It was learned the dumpsters had been sold for steel on June 13 at a Marshalltown business. Deal received cash proceeds from the sale.
At his initial appearance Wednesday, Deal was appointed a public defender. He is being held on $5,000 cash or surety bond. His preliminary hearing is Oct. 4.
