Man arrested for felony burglary, extortion

Schieffer

Marshall County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Alan Lawrence Schieffer, 60, of Nevada on a warrant and took him to Marshall County Jail recently on multiple charges.

Schieffer faces charges of burglary second degree, a Class C felony, extortion, a Class D felony, and theft in the second degree a Class D felony, according to court documents.

Schieffer entered a residence in Melbourne on July 19 and took control of household goods and personal goods without the owner’s permission, according to a criminal complaint. Additionally, Schieffer took a vehicle without the owner’s permission.

He was placed in the residence by a witness and a GPS tracking device he is required to wear by Department of Corrections.

The extortion charge stemmed from Schieffer texting the victim saying she would get the items back if she paid him $6,000, the amount Schieffer claimed was owed to him by the victim during his initial appearance Wednesday.

Also at his initial appearance, a magistrate ordered Schieffer held on $10,000 cash only bond. His preliminary hearing is Sept. 27.
