Area high school students have until Oct 25 to complete the application form to register for a free educational workshop in Marshalltown where they can learn more about healthcare career opportunities.

The workshop titled “Introduction to Healthcare Careers” will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Nov. 9. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

The event is jointly sponsored by McFarland Clinic, Unity Point Health – Marshalltown, Iowa Valley Continuing Education, Primary Health Care, Iowa River Hospice and the Iowa Veterans Home.

Activities will include:

• A panel discussion by healthcare personnel

• Simulation lab at Iowa Valley Continuing Education

• Operating room wound care at South Medical Park

• Activities with Iowa Veterans Home residents

• Learning sessions by McFarland Clinic, Unity Point Health, Primary Health Care, Iowa River Hospice and Iowa Veterans Home

• Banana suturing

• Filling medication orders

• Hands-on lab experience

• Life-flight helicopter – depending on availability – and ambulance tours.
